Airlines Introducing New Routes for 2018

When asked, most people will always say that they would love to do more traveling. It’s fun. It’s relaxing. But, it can also be difficult. You need to figure out where you’re going, where you’re staying, how you’re getting there – it’s a whole process. One of the trickiest parts of planning a trip can often be figuring out your flights. You have to decide what airline you’re going to use, where you’re departing, how many stops you’ll make, and how long your layovers will be. It’s really a debacle of its own within the already tricky process of planning a trip. Luckily, several different airlines are introducing new routes that will take people to and from places all over the world in 2018. You will still need to plan out the trip, but these new routes can give you more options and might make it easier to make all of the pieces fit together. Although several airlines are creating new routes, American Airlines and United Airlines are launching several new routes that you might want to pay particular attention to.

American Airlines:

The majority of American Airlines’ new routes are international. To start, the airline has announced several changes and new routes to Canada. Some of these routes will provide daily service to Vancouver International Airport and seasonal summer service to Calgary International Airport, both from Chicago O’Hare. Because these are two busy locations in Canada, the additional flight options should help a number of travelers to and from Canada. The airline has also expanded its existing service to Toronto, Edmonton, Ottawa, and Quebec City, making it even easier to connect between the US and Canada in general.

For anyone looking to travel to Europe this summer, American Airlines is launching a number of additional seasonal routes to places like Prague, Venice, and Budapest, which will run from May through October. The Prague and Budapest routes connect to Philadelphia, while the Venice route connects from Chicago. Another seasonal flight the airline has announced for the summer of 2018 will connect Dallas-Fort Worth to Reykjavik-Keflavik, Iceland. This route will start a bit later in the summer, running from June through October. All of these new options can help more travelers enjoy their summer vacations abroad.

It is important to note that American Airlines isn’t just expanding its international flights. The airline is launching several new domestic flights in 2018 as well. These flight options include a nonstop flight between Chicago O’Hare and Charleston International, and a weekend-only flight between Chicago O’Hare and Myrtle Beach. Although the flights themselves will be handled by one of the airline’s subsidiaries, Envoy Air, they will contribute to the number of flights American Airlines provides daily.

United Airlines:

United recently announced several interesting routes that are going to be appearing in 2018. Ten of these routes are domestic flights. Three flights are going to depart from Chicago – one to El Paso, one to Wilmington, and one to Fresno. Two of the routes will take people from Los Angeles to Kalispall and Missoula, Montana. Two more of the flights will originate in Los Angeles and take people to Redmond and Medford, Oregon. The remaining three routes depart from Denver, New York/Newark, and Washington-Dulles and will take you to Jacksonville, Elmira, and Wilmington respectively. These routes are particularly exciting because they are scheduled to operate daily. Although the majority of these routes are scheduled to start in April, three routes are seasonal. The routes taking people to Fresno, Kalispell, and Missoula, will not start until June because they are more popular destinations for people who enjoy the outdoors in the summer.

In addition to the new domestic flights, United is planning on expanding international flights as well. This plan already started in January when United introduced a nonstop flight between Houston, Texas and Sydney, Australia. The 15 to 18-hour flight may be long (one of the longest flights in the world), but it opens new options for those wishing to travel to Australia. The airline also announced several other flights that are scheduled from Newark, San Francisco, and Washington-Dulles. The routes out of Newark are scheduled to start in May and take you to Porto and Reykjavik Keflavik. Also starting in May, the Washington-Dulles route will connect to Edinburgh. Meanwhile, San Francisco’s route will take you to Zurich starting in June.

Finally, four seasonal international flights are also coming this year, just in case you didn’t think you had enough new options yet. There are two flights from Chicago O-Hare, one to Dublin and one to Edinburgh. A route from San Francisco to Munich and a route from Washington Dulles to Lisbon. These flights will start in April and May and operate through the summer. All in all, these new routes will help the airline expand its services considerably this year.

Although this might already seem like more new flights than you know what to do with in a year, several other airlines have also announced new routes for 2018. Delta, Spirit Airlines, and more are also expanding their service in the coming months. Hopefully, this means it will be easier than ever to figure out how to get yourself to and from your next traveling adventure.
